FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mission Spokane
How can we find love and unity in a world
of violence and terror?
How can God transform even the most nightmarish
of conditions?
How can Spokane learn from a troubled
place and the power of prayer?
Dr. Ruth Ruibal will speak on the power
of Christian unity, 7:00pm June 13, 2004
at Fourth Memorial Church, 2000 N. Standard
in Spokane, WA.
Dr. Ruibal, pastor of Ekklesia Christian
Colombian Center, knows first hand the
power of the Lord for community transformation.
For over twenty years, Dr. Ruibal and
her husband, Pastor Julio Ruibal fought
for the Christian community of Cali, Columbia.
Cali, the notorious center of the Cali
drug cartel, was a dark place of dread,
full of angry men armed with machine guns.
In 1991, Ekklesia dedicated itself for
the unity of the whole church and the
transformation of the city. The churches,
under the Lord's guidance in 1995, started
holding all night prayer vigils with between
45,000 and 55,000 in attendance.
In December that year, Pastor Julio Ruibal
paid the ultimate price for his work against
the darkness of drug lords, when martyred
for his beliefs. His death helped mobilize
and break down denominational strife between
the local churches of Cali. One and half
years after the prayer meeting started,
the muscle of the drug lords was broken,
with most of them captured, dead, or having
turned themselves into the authorities.
Many of the government officials credited
the unity among the churches as a key
to the renovation of Cali. Dr. Ruibal
will speak about the power of the Lord's
love to triumph over the darkest of places
and how that same power can also transform
Spokane and the Pacific Northwest.
