Church Planter Assessments and Boot Camp offered by Mission Spokane

August, 2001

Hi!

Several months ago, plans were made to accelerate church planting in Spokane. The harvest truly is plentiful: only 18% of our population attends church! We need more churches to reach the lost. As part of this effort to accelerate church planting, we hope to plant several new churches on Easter, 2002.

Here are the next steps.

On October 5-6, we will be providing an assessment for potential church planters. Rod and Teresa Koop, from Colorado Springs, will train assessors, and then lead us through the assessment process. We are killing two birds with one stone: we’ll not only assess potential church planters, but we’ll train assessors as well, so we can do our own assessments in the future. (Assessor training can be useful in a number of settings besides church planting.)

The assessment consists primarily of a behavioral interview based on Charles Ridley’s thirteen core characteristics of a church planter. This is supplemented by some written assessments.

Our schedule will be as follows:
Friday, October 5 from 7-10 PM Train assessors.
Saturday, October 6 from 9 AM-2PM Assess potential church planters.2-4 PM Debrief with assessors.

Cost will be $25 per person; lunch is included on Saturday.

On November 5-9, your assessed church planter is invited to participate in a Church Planters Bootcamp at Camp Crestview near Portland, Oregon. Bootcamp provides intensive training that helps church planters think strategically about their mission. Bootcamps are offered all across the country by various denominations. This one is sponsored by Foursquare (I will be one of the presenters), but the training is not denomination-specific.

The training is based on The Church Planters Toolkit, by Bob Logan and Bill Ogne, which your church planter will need to purchase and complete before bootcamp. The cost for bootcamp is $1200 per couple (it’s worth every penny---a great investment in a church planting couple!). If your church planter is married, the couple must attend the assessment and bootcamp together. It’s a team thing!

If you have a potential church planter you would like to have assessed, or a potential assessor you would like to have trained, please call my office at 327-4422 and ask for Cathy. Give her the names and what you are signing up for. Also, if you are interested in sending a church planting couple to bootcamp, please let Cathy know.

Or, if you have questions, call Cathy or e-mail me (joe@lifecenter.net).

Warmly,

Pastor Joe Wittwer, Life Center
