Mission Spokane in conjunction with Mission America and HOPE Ministries held a Lighthouse of Prayer seminar this past Friday and Saturday, November 10-11, 2000 at Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Speakers included Kristen Grace from Mission America and the main speaker, Dave Halbert, a Special Representative for International Renewal Ministries who was asked to do the seminar by and for HOPE Ministries.

Lighthouse of Prayer

Pre-Seminar Prayer Gathering:
The Friday evening event was a Pre-Seminar Prayer Gathering for intercessors, Lighthouse keepers and all serious prayers. Points covered were.

  • Review the important role of intercessors in laying prayer foundations.
  • Learn why LIGHTHOUSES OF PRAYER are impacting neighborhoods and cities
  • Be trained and equipped to start or re-start your own Lighthouse of Prayer
  • Strengthen each other and our churches through prayer

Lighthouses of Prayer Seminar:
The Saturday morning seminar showed how and why Lighthouses have been started in over 12,000 churches. The main point Dave Halbert pointed out is that this is a "life changing" event. He also spoke about the concept of Prayer, Care and Share. That day we learned:

  • What a Lighthouse is and what is already happening
  • How to start your own Lighthouse of Prayer
  • Steps to begin praying for neighbors & start a new lifestyle
  • Why this is not just another "program" and how to make it permeate your ministries
  • How to sustain a church Lighthouse of Prayer

Definition of City Reaching
City reaching is the ongoing process of mobilizing the whole body of Christ in a geographically identified area to strategically focus all of it's resources on reaching that area with the whole gospel resulting in the redemption of society and the transformation of the area.

A City of Praying Neighbors
What would your city be like if every neighbor and neighborhood were prayed for daily? I think it would be a city in transformation with many people coming to Christ. That's what God wants. His heart's desire is for all people to be saved and for all of us to "live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness" (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

We have available software that can print out the names of the people on your street and the streets parallel to your street. Although it is not always accurate, we do receive updates each year. This software also notes your address as a Lighthouse and also prints out the other Lighthouses in your part of the city.

Arty Bartlett is the volunteer for Harvest Software which gives people a printout of their neighborhood so they can more effectively pray for their neighbors. If you would like to be registered as a Lighthouse and receive a printout of your neighborhood, you can contact Arty at: sbartlett@integrityonline.com
