Here
is an update on Mission Spokane’s church planting initiative.
September 12, 2000
Dear Friends,
Bottom line: we need to push our launch date back from
September 2001 to Easter of 2002.
Here’s why. Our plan is to launch 7-10 new churches
on one weekend. Although we have enough churches that
want to participate, we don’t have enough that are ready.
Only two churches have a church planter who is ready
to be assessed and trained. The rest of us are still
praying and looking for a qualified church planter.
That includes me; my own church is one of the “want-to-but-not-ready”
variety.
We want this endeavor to be God-led. The fact that
we don’t have enough church-planters leads us to believe
that we need to wait for God’s supply.
By pushing the launch date back six months, it gives
all of us a full year to identify a church planter.
In the new time-frame, we would assess potential church
planters next summer, and send them to Church Planters’
Boot Camp next fall. While we prefer launching in the
fall, there are advantages to an Easter launch, notably
that you launch on the most well-attended Sunday of
the year, and you have the summer to bond with your
new congregation.
So what’s next? I hope by extending the time-line,
more of you will be able to participate! Start praying
for a young leader that you can train and send. Keep
me posted on your progress, and let us know if there
is any way we can help.
Warmly,
Pastor Joe Wittwer
